Evaluate Mining Block Solids

To access this screen:

  • Reserves ribbon >> Reserves >> Evaluate.

Generate a mining blocks reserves table.

Important: This task is only available if all pits in the project are supported by a block model, mining blocks and a topography.

This managed task, part of the Reserves workflow, is used to evaluate the mining blocks generated using either of the available methods (automatically or by defining outlines manually). The reserves table will contain the tonnes and grades, plus other attribute values, of the mining blocks and are used when scheduling. The model used for the evaluation is the one defined for the block’s pit in the Define Planning Model task.

This is one of two tabs available for the Evaluate task with the other being Report Settings, used to set up export of reserves data to Microsoft Excel®.

Reserves Evaluation Legends

If no other overriding evaluation legend is specified, the legend you set up on the Evaluation screen will also be used to evaluate any automatically-design pit shells as part of the Auto Design task. This makes it really easy to adjust your pit shell design and road network and see the impact on evaluation results.

Note: You will need to define an evaluation legend and parameters for all pits in your project before you can select Evaluate Blocks.

The evaluation legend settings defined in the global Project Settings screen is not used to generate a reserves table - the legend specified on this panel is used instead. Editing the global evaluation legend settings in Project Settings will have no effect on the reserves table generated as part of the Evaluate Blocks managed task.

Activity steps:

  1. Display the Evaluate Mining Block Solids screen.

  2. The table at the top of the screen displays, for each Pit of your project, you see:

    • The planning Model associated with the pit.

    • The evaluation Legend assigned for reserves table generation (and downstream volume evaluation).

    • A Column, being the attribute referenced by the legend. For example, ROCKCODE to evaluation by each rock domain.

Select a record in the table to update the rest of the screen.

  3. Select the data Columncontaining the values to be categorized into evaluation 'bins'.

  4. Generate a default range Legend for the selected Column, or select it if it already exists.

Note: Specific to this task, clicking Use Default will allow you to set the evaluation legend to be the default for the selected model.

  5. You can optionally Add attributes from a file using BLOCKID as the key field. Click to browse for a Datamine file.

  6. Choose how volumes are outside the model are treated during evaluation, using Fill the volumes outside the block model with the following category name (using the default block model density):

    • Check to apply the specified evaluation category to blocks falling outside the model.

    • Uncheck to leave the evaluation category absent (-) for these blocks.

  7. Click Evaluate Blocks to generate an Evaluation Results screen outlining total tonnage and volumes (including outside the model if selected), for each pit phase.

  8. Click Show Reserves to launch Table Editor and display the reserves table in full.

  9. Save your task settings.

  10. Save your project.
